Support for NICU Parents

Your Resource for Comprehensive NICU Family Support

In January 2014, the National Perinatal Association convened a broad group of nearly 50 thought leaders and stakeholders. We came together with the common purpose of improving the level of psychosocial support provided to NICU parents – as well as improving training and support for those who provide care in NICUs. The resulting recommendations were published in December 2015 in the Journal of Perinatology. They are appropriately titled, "Interdisciplinary Recommendations for Psychosocial Support of NICU Parents." has been created as a companion website to serve as a resource center to implement the comprehensive family-centered support to NICU parents, as outlined in the recommendations.

If you are a professional working in a NICU, you will find resources that will help you transform your NICU into one that is more supportive of NICU parents and promotes the wellbeing of you and your colleagues.

If you are a parent, you will find resources that will help you navigate your NICU journey and the transformation you undertake because of it. And veteran NICU parents will find resources to inform or start a parent support group of your own.
